What does blonde hair symbolize?
Blonde hair has always been associated with feminine beauty in Western society. The Greek goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite, was said to have blonde hair.
Why do some blondes have dark roots?
Because natural blondes have very little melanin in their hair shafts, yet they do have *some* melanin. Melanin is a pigment present in the skin and hair that gives them their color.
Why does blonde hair darken over time?
Melanin, a pigment found in hair, is responsible for its color, produced by hair follicles. Follicles are skin structures that grow and develop hair. The follicles produce less melanin as we age, causing the color of hair to darken and finally become gray.
Why is blonde hair so popular?
According to Peter Frost, an anthropologist at Laval University in Quebec City, desiring blonde hair stems from a desire to stand out. Because most individuals have dark hair, blondes stand out. “The more popular a hair color becomes, the less frequently it is desired,” Frost explained. “It’s sort of a novelty effect.”
Will blonde hair stay blonde?
Blondes don’t stay blonde forever. (At least, naturally.) Because of increased amounts of eumelanin, a natural pigment that governs the shade of hair strands, many children born with light hair turn dark before their tenth birthday.
